August 12, 2006 - Ronnie Robison's Eagle Scout Project - building step ponds to fix an erosion problem.
For his Eagle Scout project, Ronnie Robison constructed three step ponds to fix a badly eroded gulley near the power cut that crosses Bay Valley Lane.  Ronnie got engineering advice from Asad Rouhi who is with the Northern Virginia Soil and Water Conservation District.  Ronnie asked for and was supplied with 2 tons of Class 1 rip-rap and a roll of "joe" textile from the Stormwater Management section of the Fairfax County Department of Public Works.

Volunteers, all Scouts, family, and parents with Boy Scout Troop 1371, carried the stone wheelbarrow load by wheelbarrow load to the gully.  Three step ponds were constructed, next to each other.  The step ponds will slow down the outfall from a large stormwater drain and eliminate the erosion that has been occurring there for many years.

Congratulations to Ronnie and Boy Scout Troop 1371for completing yet another important project in the Little Rocky Run watershed.  Special thanks to Asad Rouhi and Fairfax DPW, especially Jeff Hatterick, who saw to it that the rip rap arrived at the site in a timely manner.

Volunteers included: Matt Brennan(S), Pat Brennan(S), Tom Brennan, Vince Dominicus(S), Ned Foster, David Hammer(S), Mike McCarthy, Don Minner, Joanne Robison, Holly Robison, and Ron Robison.  (Ronnie Robison is in the center, standing and is wearing jeans).
