Friends of Little Rocky Run - Virtual Tour of Watershed, Page 63, the Wetlands to the Fake Wetlands at Stringfellow Road
The picture to the left shows the view upstream from the bridge over Stringfellow Road.

Just upstream from the bridge, something very interesting seems to be occurring.  Several years ago, to compensate for destroying a real wetland downstream, a "fake" wetland was constructed.  The creek did not flow through it, and it was more of a stagnant pond.

However, starting about six months ago, beavers have taken over and done some remarkable engineering.

Does this make it a real wetland?  See
page 66 for thoughts on this.
At the upper end of the photo to the left, observe an unusally (for this watershed) tall beaver dam.  This beaver dam causes a major portion of the creek to flow through the "fake" wetland and its exit point is about 20' feet downstream from the dam on the left.
This is a close-up of the beaver dam.  Note the tire on the left side.  Note also the outflow from the "fake" wetland coming in from the left side.  The dam is between 3' and 4' tall.
