| Not far above the old beaver dam, the creek forks. The right hand fork is Willow Spring Branch. I haven't walked Willow Spring in over two years, but the last time I did, it was clogged with debris. I did get two rusty old 1946 Plymouths towed away once, but that made barely a dent in the debris. The fork to the left, Little Rocky Run proper, continues upstream to an old earthern dam that once had a sizeable pond behind it. The authorities tore it down several years ago, probably because they were worried about legal liability. Unfortunately they basically just ripped a hole in the dam, which has resulted in quite a bit of sediment flowing downstream. They should have hauled out the 15' long metal overflow pipe they tossed onto the creek bank. The last photo shows the creek meandering through the former pond bed. This is a popular gathering place for flocks of geese. Photos on this page taken on 12/30/2003. |
