Friends of Little Rocky Run - Virtual Tour of Watershed, Page 7, 3rd Creek Crossing to the Deepwood Farms Tributary
Just upstream from the third creek crossing there is an island.  The channel on the left side is typically dry unless the creek is flowing vigorously.

This island is absolutely irresistable to young boys.  It is not unusual to find crudely built stone or log bridges to the island.  Forts are occasionally built as well.  There is absoutely no harm in this, and this is what our stream valley should be all about - a safe, beautiful, and fun place to hike and play.

This island also attracts the paintballer crowd from time to time.  For reasons unknown, these teen-age boy almost always leave trash behind, which volunteers promptly remove.

This is a beautiful section of the creek and must have been spectacular when it was virgin forest.

The photo to the left is looking uphill to the right just upstream from the island.  These homes on Marblestone Drive have been built right on the edge of a cliff that the stream is steadily eroding.  Note the graffiti.  As far as we know, these homes are not in danger.  There is an unsubstantiated report that they were once condemned until the concrete retaining wall was built.
The vantage point of the photo on the right is from the path below the cliff shown above, looking back downstream toward the island  The well trodden walking path can be clearly seen.  We have always wondered how old this path is.  Could this section of the path be many centuries old and once used by Indians?
Photos on this page shot in November 2002.
