| This page shows the huge beaver dam that creates the wetland area. The pond stretches to U. S. 29, visible in the distance under the power lines. Because the beaver dam curves often, so far no vantage point has been found to photograph it in its entirety. It is between 200 and 300 feet long. All kinds of waterfowl utilize this pond, including gray herons. Raptors are frequently seen as well. Ned Foster saw a bald eagle in this area in the early 1990's. Photos read from left to right and top to bottom. | |||||||||||||||||

| The photo below is taken from about the same vantage point as the one above, but shows the area of the beaver dam to the right (east). The townhomes are in the Centreville Green development, probably the ones on the appropriately named Canada Goose Court. A dense thicket separates the townhomes from the wetland. Unfortunately, the stormwater drains from this area pour a totally unnecessary amount of trash into the wetland. The thicket snags most of it. A clean-up here in the summer of 2002 in just one of the drain outlets produced 11 full bags of trash, including many hundreds of cigarette butts. The same area was again clogged with trash on the day these photos were taken. |
