Friends of Little Rocky Run - Virtual Tour of Watershed, Page 58, the Wetlands to the Fake Wetlands at Stringfellow Road

Photos read top to bottom and left to right.  An otherwise scenic area starts getting ugly as it nears Arrowhead Park Drive, formerly Stringfellow Road..  Water from a drainage ditch (Photos #3 and #4) coming from Arrowhead Park Drive, is causing severe erosion where it dumps into Little Rocky Run.

Maybe the stones were  put in the ditch after the erosion occurred, and the engineers in charge have actually corrected the problem.  We'll keep an eye on it This section of the creek, from these eroded banks to the nearby bridge over Arrowhead Park Drive is in very bad shape.

Look carefully at the picture to the left, and you will see an upside down red aluminum canoe in the creek.  During a clean-up on May 4, 2003, we asked a local homeowner if the canoe belonged to them.  They said it did, so we left it there.  Still, it seems like an odd place to have a canoe. And speaking of odd, there is a dog kennel nearby with about six dogs in it that couldn't be any closer to the creek.  One wonders how their feces is disposed of.  Even more amazing is a small chicken coop next to the dog kennel with a half dozen or so chickens in it. Is it legal to raise chickens in Fairfax County?
