| Matt Duncan, of Boy Scout Troop 577, chose to repair a Little Rocky Run tributary for his Eagle Scout project. This was a prodigious job because the tributary was badly eroded and was dumping large amounts of silt into the main stream channel. Careful planning and coordination with a host of government agencies meant that the project took several months to get done. Fairfax County Stormwater Planning was kind enough to donate several tons of stone needed to shore up banks and build a step-pond. The State Urban Forester, Judy Okay, helped plan the planting of about 75 trees and shrubs and also got two bio-logs for the project. Asad Rouhi, a stream expert with the Northen Virginia Soil and Water Conservation District, donated invaluable hours and also served as an on-site supervisor. Earth Sangha also donated some trees. This project was hard work and complex. Matt Duncan deserves a great deal of praise, as does Troop 577. (Matt is in the white shirt in the picture at right, accompanied by Asad Rouhi). |

| This area of the tributary was in the worst shape. The bank on the right side was undercut about two feet in. So the fix shown on the next page is larger than what you see here. | |||||||||||||||

| The first step was to line the hole with a plastic lining. Then large quantities of rocks were added. | |||||||||||||||
