| Matt Brennan organized a clean-up and planting of a large stormwater pond near South Springs Drive in the Little Rocky Run neighborhood.. Matt and his volunteers planted about 25 native trees, including bald cypress and sweetbay magnolia. Eleven bags of trash were cleaned out of the pond and the tributary, some of it nasty. Members of Troop 1371 who participated were: Front Row L to R: Debbie Brennan, John Lopacki, John Freike, Tony Lopacki, and Tom Brennan. Back Row L to R: Justin Radican, Robbie Krieger, Pat Brennan, Erick Carlson, Matt Brennan, and Ned Foster. This project took quite a bit of planning which included getting approval from the LRRHOA, checking with nearby homeowners and calling Miss Utility. Fairfax County's Department of Public Works and Environmental Services provided detailed drawings and valuable assistance for the best places to put the various trees. Funding was provided by a grant received from the Navy Federal Credit Union. The trees were provided at a steep discount by the Potomac Conservancy. |
