Justin Epstein's Eagle Scout Project
Justin Epstein, with Boy Scout Troop 1371, completed his Eagle Scout project on December 15, 2007.  The project was to paint over the graffiti under the New Braddock Bridge and also clean the immediate area.  Since this bridge was opened in the mid-1980s, it had accumulated a prodigious amount of graffiti.  Justin and Troop 1371, per VDOT’s instructions, painted over the 20 years worth of “artwork”, much of it obscene.

In the pictures below right and bottom, you can see the new paint and in the bottom picture you can see some of the graffiti.  The bridge has 4 internal supports (two-sided) and 4 end supports and consists of about 2,000 square feet of surface, all of which was completely decorated by "artwork"..

Of interest is that Justin is the second Epstein to do an Eagle Scout project in the LRR watershed.  His older brother
Jeremy preceded him by a couple of years.
The working conditions were dismal.  12/15 was an overcast December day and the footing under the bridge was treacherous, consisting entirely of rip-rap.  There were no injuries, but everyone got covered in paint.

The photo at left shows what all of the pillars looked like originally and also shows the progress of the paint job.
