| Bill Ballou and Carl Bowlen | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Bill Ballou is the the president of the Compton Heights Homeowner's Association. Carl Bowlen is the recently retired president. Both discovered a couple of months ago that their Association has responsibility for removing some 300 tires from the power cut on their side of Compton Road. Guess who has been doing most of the work with little help? Bill and Carl. Incidentally, it is a Class 1 misdemeanor to have more than 100 tires on your property and a Class 6 felony to have more than 500. Not to mention that they are breeding grounds for mosquitoes. UPDATE! On January 25, 2003 volunteers removed all 300+ tires. Click here for details. Photo: cardinal flower or lobelia cardinalis, said to be irresistable to hummingbirds. |

| Scott Meyer and the Virginia Adopt-A-Stream Program | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Scott Meyer, who is our point-of-contact in the Virginia Adopt-A-Stream Program is one of our true heroes. Without his can-do positive attitude and his promptness in supplying us with trash bags, literature, first aid kits, and gloves, there is no way our efforts would have been anywhere near as successful. This is a state program that everyone should support. Photo: a fallen tree and its reflection in Little Rocky Run. |
