Andrew Shaw's ambitious project was to remove trash from Little Rocky Run between New Braddock Road and Compton Road. This is over a mile of stream valley. Brambles, vines, mud and cliffs presented formidable obstacles. Andrew's group cleaned up a well-known hangout near the power station on Bay Valley Lane. There were a large number of beer bottles, chairs, etc. on the sheer cliff at a place known as "The Hole". None of this cleanup was easy, but "The Hole" was particularly difficult.
The trash tally included: twenty-four full orange VDOT bags, one bicycle, one scooter, one propane tank, one wooden pallet, one wire cage, sixteen linear feet of 2X4, eight linear feet of 4X4, one 24' aluminum ladder, one 50 gal. plastic trash can, three deck chairs, one plastic laundry tub, and two 5 gal. buckets. The total weight was 600 lbs and cost $30.00 in dump fees. |

Andrew is a member of Boy Scout Troop 577 and an impressive number of volunteers showed up.
